Whether you’re moving in to your first home or you’re ready for a new carpet, you might be stuck for choice and you don’t know which the best option is to go for is between natural flooring and traditional carpets.
We love carpets, but we also love natural flooring and here are our five reasons why you might consider natural flooring over traditional carpets.
Eco-friendly
First and foremost, if you love the environment as much as we do, then this is the best option. Most traditional carpets are made from a nylon fibre which are dyed to create multiple colours. Nylon carpet is a non-sustainable source as it is made from plastics – this means once you want to change your carpet it is non-biodegradable which affects the environment in a number of ways.
Natural carpets on the other hand, are made from sustainable sources such as plants which ensure that once they need to be disposed of, they are biodegradable. They also don’t harm the environment when they come to be manufactured as use very little fertilisers, herbicides and pesticides if any at all.
Textures
Like other carpets you can get them in chunky or fine fibres. Seagrass and Sisal fibres are great examples here because their beautiful flawed finish. They also very versatile as they come in different styles too, so you can choose the type of weave you like the best.
Other textures include wool carpets which feel soft when walking barefoot and give you an extremely cosy feel to your interiors.
Exotic
Unlike traditional carpets, natural carpets are made in exotic environments, plats and food.
Coir carpets are uniquely made from the fibres of coconut husks whilst Jute and sisal carpets are derived from exotic plants. The hot environments allow the plants to dry out quickly in order for them to be in perfect condition to be weaved into beautiful carpets.
Durable
Natural flooring is always hardwearing, obviously, as they are not made from the same fibres, some are more durable than others. Dependant on the thickness and the quality of traditional carpets, you cannot guarantee that they will last as long as natural flooring.
Before purchasing any traditional carpet we recommend you ask questions about its thickness and lifespan before you buy it, you may be surprised on the answers you receive.
