When it comes to redecorating your bedroom, you should choose a decor that feels comfortable, spacious and have a calm feel.

Whilst it may seem like a minor detail, choosing the carpet can go a long way in creating the look and mood you are after.

If you are looking to find that perfect carpet, here at Brookside, we give you a few tips to keep in mind to ensure that you end up with a carpet that suits your new bedroom.

Working out your budget is an important step when thinking about replacing your carpet.

Carpets are usually priced on the square footage of a room, so it may be a good idea to have a measure up before you start your shopping spree!

If you have a large room to cover, you might want to think about a lower cost option, on the other hand, if you have a small room to change, your budget may be able to go a bit higher and choose a more luxurious feel.

Once you have a budget set in mind, this will save you plenty of time in store as you will be able to identify more easily, the type of carpet you can afford.

There are lots of different options when it comes to carpets as you can opt for natural or synthetic fibres.

Wool is a ideal option for a bedroom as it has a soft and luxurious feel to it, however as it is a natural fibre, it is one of the more expensive options.

Synthetic carpets are usually more cost effective, so are an ideal choice if you have a larger area to cover. You will also find you have more of a choice in this range when it comes to colours and patterns.

Nylon is somewhere in the middle of the two ranges, it is synthetic but has a soft and cosy feel.

Polyester carpeting is a great choice if you or your family have allergies or asthma as it is non allergenic. However, the only downside of this option is that it is prone to piling or shedding.

When choosing a carpet for a bedroom, you should aim to buy as soft and as comfortable as your budget allows.

The texture can also give your bedroom carpet a more attractive feel, so when shopping, focus on the texture as well as the colour or pattern.

For an expensive and luxury feel, choose a long piled carpet which has a plush and fluffy texture.

Natural, greys or light browns are a safe option as they will work with any decor colours. However, light coloured carpets will show marks easily, therefore if you are heavy footed or have pets and children, you may wish to rethink a lighter option.

If you have your heart set on a lighter coloured carpet, you could always find a suitably patterned rug that will make a pale, plain carpet more interesting and deter any marks.

If you like bold colours, why not try a brighter coloured carpet with lighter walls. Rich shades of blues and green can add an interesting dimension to a room as well as giving it that elegant feel.
